Wright in the news, among the Reformed Chicks, and again v. Piper

This was supposed to be a break from this, but it didn’t quite work out…

Through BHT I found Reformed Chicks Blabbing’s link to excellent story about N. T. Wright. Also, there was a link to this nice pithy blurb about the Bishop. That was all I was going to say. This was going to be a break from polemics. But then I notice what she said in the middle of her post:

Christ became the true Israel and fulfilled what they were supposed to be. My OT professor shared with us Wright’s interpretation of Romans 2 in light of the promises made to Israel in the new covenant and it really helped me to understand it better (more on that after my final).

So here is a woman at a Reformed seminary learning that Wright’s view is really helpful with understanding Romans 2. Interesting.

We get all kinds of stuff at seminary, amazing isn’t it? Barth, Kline, Wright, Ridderbos, Vos, etc. the professors read a broad range of material and have us read it as well.

As I said in the post, I really appreciated his take on Romans 2, I have always struggled with that passage and the professor (using Wright’s interpretation) helped me to understand it a lot better. And I plan to do a walk through on my blog for my readers.

And as far as the “pity blurb” part of your post, I’m sorry that you took it that way, it wasn’t meant to be in any way disrespectful of Wright.

I’ll second that Ridderbos shout-out. He says that “being in the Spirit” is an ecclesial category. Reformed Seminarys have been assigning that book since it was translated into English. Good stuff, yet all the more confusing as to what’s going on now.

I responded to the general tone of your post in an update to my post. Though it was really aimed at those who, like you were offended by my caveat.

I’m reading Ridderbos (The Coming Kingdom) right now in preparation for my Gospels final. I’m surprised I can understand him 🙂 and am enjoying the read.

I think you confused me with the “pity” and “polemics” combination 🙂 But confusing me is not too hard to do with so much going on with my blogs and studying for my Gospels final. Plus, being sick and the lack of sleep doesn’t help.

OK, better update the post again.
