I think part of the hard sell is that we have demythologized our idols and so the average Christian thinks that they&#039;re ok. We have &#039;violence&#039; and &#039;democracy&#039; and &#039;economics&#039;, not Mars or Pluto. And that looks different. Paul would have needed more than his eyes to say, spot the &#039;idolatry&#039; of 17th century New York or 20th century Los Angeles.
