Maybe it was not the most effective method of limiting the risk; that remains to be seen. I'm confident Reagan would have seen the Middle East as the most significant threat to our nation and would have put the region at the top of his list, though I don't pretend to know how he would have addressed the threat. I think you're on very solid ground criticizing the economic policies of the last decade or two, though sorting out the responsibility for that is much more difficult.
