Obeying a command is obeying a command

Ludwig Wittgenstein wrote, “There is no religious denomination in which the misuse of metaphysical expressions has been responsible for so much sin as it has in mathematics” (Culture and Value).  But has anyone committed as much sin against grammar as the professional “anti-FV” theologians?

The latest work of real genius is that one can be called a heretic for calling obedience to the Gospel imperative…. obedience.

Here is some therapy for whoever wants it.

Oh, that exchange between Tim and Clark in the comments section is PRICELESS. Clark just shuts down the comments when he can’t answer honest, clearly articulated questions. He just screams, “Its about the Gospel!”

Mark – Thanks for the link to your very excellent article. Very helpful. And, gosh, that Turretin quote at the end pretty much contradicts everything Lane has been trying to argue in regards to the obligation to believe the gospel isn’t obedience because it doesn’t belong to the law category, yet I thought Lane claimed the tradition was on his side. As for the law/gospel thing, I’ll just come right out and say it – the quicker we abandon the ridiculously artificial law/gospel hermeneutic, the better off we all will be.

Well, I claim the tradition where it is true, and argue the Bible where I disagree with it.

By definition, anyone in the 21st century claiming to be completely on board with the tradition is being dishonest with himself or with others. I like to let people know where I am coming from.
