Advice requested for a peripheral

I would like to get a microphone for a computer. I don’t want to waste money but I would like one that I would want to keep even as I switch to new computers in the future.

Any ideas?

This is what I bought recently; I’m totally happy with it and the audio quality is quite a bit better than the generic PC boom mic I had before:

I prefer the boom mics over headsets, but similar features can be found in the headset versions.

The issues for me involve filtering/noise cancellation and durability. The computer microphone market has seen a real spike in quality and features due to the explosion of podcasting. We now have mics marketed for podcasters:

Shoot, I’d just buy a regular microphone… maybe a nice lapel mic from my normal audio equipment supplier (can’t remember the name right now… it’s at my work). You can plug them into your soundcard, and you’ll definitely be able to keep it for a good long time. I’m never sure how to judge mics specifically made for computers.
