Non-heterosexual “union” creates strange bedfellows

The NPR Fresh Air interview with the lovers who started “Big Love” is an interesting window into politics and drama. I tried to list to it but Calvin got disturbed and asked me to turn it off. Jennifer reported a high point when one of them talked about having to learn new vocabulary and said that the first time he saw the term “sister-wife” he wanted to puke.

I know what you mean, friend. Since I had pretty much the same experience when I heard about domestic partner.

Full disclosure here: Jennifer and I have watched the show, despite the occasional R-rated content. The comparison made on the NPR page linked above with the Sopranos is not surprising to me. There is a lot of criminal underworld activity in the story as the polygamist compound leaders who are never too far away act like mafia dons and the suburban “family” is continually trying to keep their secret.

Frankly, what scares me is how familiar some of the patriarchicalist religion is. What scares me even more is what happens when I google for Christian polygynist apologetics.

Let’s thank God for the New Covenant and the creation story every day.

Though, on a less serious note:

He better not listen to Jim Jordan on Isaac & Rebekah, then…

I was just listening to that today. Good stuff. Much better than what you were watching… 🙂 (Though RSC may disagree)
